What is BSOD gaming?
I'm going to aim for reviews of my favourite games instead of aiming for as much abandonware downloads. I'm going to try and get you guys to play the games I love so much. If it's abandoned, I'll get you the means to get it, and if it isn't, I'll show you the way to enlightenment (ie - show you where you can buy it). Some of you may know my review style, but I'll go about it again for those who don't.
Reviews are based on what I think of the games. I don't have set categories, like graphics/sound/gameplay/replay value I tick off and describe. I start with the start and finish with the end, and everything which is in between is meant to entertain. I write to entertain. There's also one of the more unique features of BSOD gaming, which is the backroom. You might've seen it over at BSOD when it was still hosted by UD, or you might have seen it over at Tween when that one was still open, but it's back on BSOD and how!
The backroom is where I have conversations with my other self, methane. Usually we're arguing about some aspect of the game, and you may very well assume that we'll never fucking agree on anything. There's also the backrooms on the screenshots screen, where we discuss the screenshots and the meanings behind it. It's all for fun. Sometimes it adds to the review, sometimes it doesn't ;)
Who is BSOD gaming?
It's me! Voh! Yay! YAY! I'm the only crewie at the moment, and will probably be the only one for quite some time to come, so just relax ;) You can email me at voh[@]hostvoh.net if you really need to talk to me. If you don't have a real need to talk to me, just come to fastfood, our forum.
What's BSOD gaming's history?
BSOD gaming started on the 14th of december, 1999 as B.S:O.D abandonware, a small little ugly site on spaceports, spurring about 15 games at its height, and cute, little reviews which really weren't reviews at all, merely short descriptions. It was run by me (voh) and wolfensteijn, who didn't really add much to the site in the month it was open. After that month, I figured it had become time to redesign, as the site was ugly, and so on the 14th of january, 2000, it was closed for awhile, and the new design was put up (v2.0).
Back then, abandonware basically was '4 years and older' since nobody had really thought about the concept yet. But at some point, TUOL started enforcing the 'abandoned' rule, which is what made abandonware what it is today - abandon. ware. But what it also meant was that I had to rip about 60% of my games off of BSOD. This made me close the site for awhile, and after it returned, it was at v3.0. In about 5 months, I raised the version count up to v8, which was the incarnation of BSOD with the longest and most continuing run, of about a year. I even had my own little domain name to go with this 'succes', called www.bsod-games.net, and well, I loved it ^_^. Then I got sick of it all, and cut my online time to a meager 1% of what it was before, and closed BSOD. This time it was permanently. Until of course, I reopened it on UD's server ;) By this time, I was at version 9.0, and I had a crew of 2, not including me. Had a nice run, but I just got sick of it all again when UD's server crashed and I lost all my work, so I went away once again.
The new chapter in BSOD's history wasn't called BSOD, but was called Tween. Tween was a nice little brown site which was to replace BSOD simply because I couldnt make a new design for BSOD (while I did raise version count to 15.1 in the meantime, since I DID try to make a new BSOD). After another server crash I lost faith again and BSOD v16.0 saw the light. And now, after a redesign and recode, BSOD v17.2 sees the light of day! Awesome! ROCK ON!
